My name is Samuel Carter, a father, teacher, mentor, and proud son of Oakland, California.
I grew up facing the same struggles that many of our youth & adults face today: poverty, instability, and limited opportunity. Despite challenges, I persevered, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in African American Studies and a Master’s Degree in Education, and built a career dedicated to lifting up others.
As a special education teacher, advocate for youth and adults, I have spent my life fighting for those too often forgotten. I've championed mental health awareness, financial empowerment, and housing security because I know that these are the pillars that rebuild lives.
Oakland Devoir Project was born from my deep belief that if I could overcome, so can every young person and adult in our city. Our mission is to make sure they have the resources, mentors, and pathways they need to succeed. So they don't let their past dictate their future”
